Cindy (Xinyi) WU is a Legal Executive with the Firm’s China & Asia Practice Group, specialising in international arbitration and cross-border commercial disputes with a particular focus on China-related matters. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, and completed the Graduate Diploma in Legal Profession Practice at the University of New South Wales. Her admission to the New South Wales bar is forthcoming. She is effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin, with near native fluency in both languages.
Prior to joining the Firm, Cindy was a Legal Assistant at Zhong Lun Law Firm in Beijing, where she worked on a SIAC arbitration governed by English law under the SIAC Arbitration Rules. Before that, she served as a Paralegal at Frederick Jordan Chambers, the largest barristers’ chambers in Sydney, assisting counsel in arbitration, litigation and advisory matters.
Cindy brings a broad foundation of international law firm experience across the Asia-Pacific region, having trained at Arnold & Porter in Shanghai, Morgan Lewis & Bockius in Hong Kong, Herbert Smith Freehills in Beijing, and King & Wood Mallesons in Shenzhen. Her dual background in law and accounting enables her to engage effectively with the financial dimensions of complex commercial disputes.
Cindy is a recipient of the Walter Reid Memorial Prize from the University of Sydney and won the Championship of the NSW Trilateral Moot Competition 2021. In her free time, Cindy enjoys reading philosophy, science fiction, and literature.
Case Highlights
International Arbitration
- Assisted in a SIAC arbitration seated in Singapore and governed by English law, arising from two commercial contracts with an aggregate initial value of approximately USD 37.7 million. The dispute concerned unpaid balances totalling approximately USD 19.6 million and involved issues relating to the assignment of choses in action and the survival of arbitration clauses. The matter was administered under the SIAC Arbitration Rules and involved bilingual proceedings in English and Mandarin.
Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution
- Assisted barristers at Frederick Jordan Chambers (Sydney) on a range of commercial and civil dispute resolution matters before the New South Wales courts and tribunals.
