PAK Waltan is a Director of the Firm and a key member of its Insurance Disputes team. She has almost 20 years of insurance dispute experience having practiced in boutique insurance firms including B Rao & K S Rajah and United Legal Alliance LLC, as well as in Rajah & Tann LLP.
During her formative years in Rao & K S Rajah, Waltan independently handled a wide range of insurance related matters involving, amongst others, property damage and personal injury claims, workmen’s compensation claims, as well as public liability cases. In particular, she assisted in defending the claim made by Ms Andrea D’cruz against the importers and distributors of the infamous Slim10 pills.
At Rajah & Tann, Waltan was privileged to work in the Insurance Department helmed by Mr. Quentin Loh S. C., before he was elevated to the High Court bench. Waltan subsequently joined United Legal Alliance LLC, another boutique insurance practice where she was an Associate Director in the General Insurance Litigation Department for 8 years.
Waltan specialises in, professional negligence litigation, general insurance litigation and construction disputes, gaining expertise in a wide range of matters and has been instructed by major insurers and their insureds in Singapore.

Some of Waltan’s notable clients and cases include:
- Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP: Acting for Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP in a dispute with its former client on whether the law firm was in breach of confidence. The matter is linked to the insolvency of the Hin Leong debacle, one of the largest corporate frauds in Singapore.
- Underwriters under Law Society Professional Insurance Scheme: Advising underwriters on various claims brought by law firms for indemnity under the Scheme.
- Allied World Assurance Company Ltd: Representing and advising insurers in relation to a claim made by insureds under a professional indemnity policy who were the managing agents involved in the highly public suits commenced by Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (“AHTC”) against its former town councillors and managing agent.
- Golden Base Energy Pte Ltd: Acting for a downstream purchaser / supplier of gasoil in a claim brought by a bank who financed the purchase of gasoil by collapsed oil trader Zenrock Commodities Pte Ltd.
- SMRT Trains Ltd: Acting for SMRT Trains Ltd in a claim against its signalling system contractor arising out of a train collision in Singapore when the signalling system malfunctioned. Also acted for its insurers who were brought in as a third party by the signalling system contractor who alleged that the all risks policy issued by the insurers also provided indemnity to them.
- Confidential Client: Acting for insurers in a policy coverage dispute relating to various land slip incidents arising out of land reclamation works on Pulau Tekong, that caused significant land damage and loss to construction equipment.
- NParks: Represented NParks in a claim by the estate of the deceased in relation to a high-profile fatal accident involving the collapse of a Heritage Tembusu tree in the Singapore Botanic gardens in Feb 2017.
- Confidential Client: Advising a group of insurers in relation to claims made under an aviation all risks policy on loss of aircraft leased to Russian airlines arising from sanctions being imposed due to the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
- Confidential Client: Represented a firm of auditors against a claim made by their clients, a leading company in the luxury watches and accessories industry, for failing to discover a fraud committed on the company by the company’s accounts manager.
- Confidential Client: Acting for reinsurers of financial guarantees issued on behalf of a shipping company in relation to a dispute which has arisen between the insurers and reinsurers under the guarantees concerning certain actions taken by the insurers without the consent of the reinsurers in respect of the said guarantees.
- Confidential Client: Advised insurers on multi-jurisdictional business interruption claims made in the wake of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic which saw compulsory business closures.
- Confidential Client: Represented an Architect in a professional negligence claim against him by a recreational club who claimed that the Architect’s design failed to comply with the Fire Code and was allegedly unfit for its purpose.
- Confidential Client: Represented the insurers in respect of a claim made under an Industrial All Risks policy for property damage and business interruption claims arising from catastrophic fire which broke out at an LPG filling facility.
- Confidential Clients: Represented several engineers against claims made by the owners of adjacent properties who claimed that their properties were damaged due to the engineer’s alleged failure to properly design / supervise excavation works premises under construction.
- Confidential Clients: Represented contractors of construction projects where injury and / or property damage was caused to third parties or lawful entrants into the project site.
- Confidential Clients: Represented various occupiers / managers of shopping malls where shoppers sustained injuries arising out of slip and fall incidents and accident caused by allegedly defective premises.
- Confidential Client: Represented large food court chain in Singapore whose pipe flushing works caused water damage to occupiers of neighbouring shops.
- Confidential Client: Acting for insurers in respect of a claim against a shipyard for surface contamination damage caused to a large number of vehicles stored in a neighbouring Free Trade Zone (FTZ) when airborne particles were blown from the shipyard to the FTZ. The case will involve detailed technical/scientific analysis to ascertain the causative link between the ship painting works undertaken at the shipyard and the contamination damage seen on the vehicles.
- Confidential Client: Acted for insurers who issued a trade credit policy covering losses sustained by the insured in the event of default by the insured’s customers.
- Confidential Client: Acting for an engineer in an arbitration with the main contractor of the Westbound viaduct from the Tampines Expressway to the Pan-Island Expressway and Upper Changi Road East relating to the collapse of the viaduct in July 2017.
