Clara LIM specialises in complex disputes and appeals and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2022.
Prior to being called to the Singapore Bar, Clara completed her Relevant Legal Training at a boutique dispute resolution firm before completing her Training Contract with LVM Law Chambers LLC.
Upon graduation, Clara has accumulated substantial experience in high-stakes disputes in the Singapore High Court. Some of the high-profile matters that Clara has been involved in include proceedings brought by a foundation on behalf of the citizens of Papua New Guinea to recover funds held in a Singapore-incorporated company; one of Singapore’s longest criminal trials relating to the 2013 S$8 billion penny stock crash; proceedings to obtain a Mareva injunction against cryptocurrency exchanges; and proceedings brought by the victim of a Ponzi scheme known as SureWin4U against her uplines.
Clara has also been involved in multiple commercial mediations and has appeared as counsel before the Strata Titles Board in an evidential hearing.
Clara graduated from King’s College London in 2020 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and was the winner of the Law School Prize in Jurisprudence and Legal Theory. She also placed second on the Singapore Institute of Legal Education’s Commendation List and Prize Award for Part A of the Bar Examinations (2021 Session 1) with two distinctions.
During the weekends, Clara enjoys spending time with her dogs and gardening.
Case Highlights
Commercial Litigation
- Represented a victim of a Ponzi scheme known as SureWin4U against her uplines for a claim of more than HKD 41 million in a High Court suit (Chan Pik Sun v Wan Hoe Keet and others [2023] SGHC 96).
- Successfully represented the Plaintiffs in High Court over a highly contentious trust dispute over the shares of a real estate development company (Ho Soo Tong and others v Ho Soo Fong and others [2023] SGHC 90). Successfully resisted the appeal before the Appellate Division of the High Court.
- Successfully represented a wife against her former husband in resisting an appeal in the Appellate Division. The wife had commenced civil proceedings against her former husband and several third parties to determine the beneficial ownership of a group of companies (Tan Siew Hui v Lim Lai Soon and others and another appeal [2023] SGHC(A) 32).
- Successfully represented one of Singapore’s biggest law firms against a claim for alleged breach of client confidentiality and conflict of interest. The decision was affirmed in Lim Oon Kuin v Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP [2023] SGHC 222.
- Representing a medical practitioner in a complex corporate matter involving minority oppression and breach of directors’ duties.
- Represented a local company in defending against claims of breach of the sale and purchase agreement of a commercial property, and in commencing third party claims against a well-known estate agent and the salesperson for breach of duty of care.
- Representing our clients against a related individual in an application for specific performance of an agreement for the sale of a residential property to them in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
- Represented a British Virgin Islands-incorporated company in commencing a claim against a company and its director for breach of a loan agreement and guarantee, with the quantum of claim at more than USD 5 million.
- Represented a management corporation in an evidential hearing before the Strata Titles Board against a claim of breach of duties.
- Represented a local university against a claim from CPF Board on outstanding CPF contribution.
- Assisted in advising an insurance company on its liability in relation to vehicular damage caused by a flash flood in Singapore.
- Assisted in proceedings brought by a foundation on behalf of the citizens of Papua New Guinea to recover funds held in a Singapore-incorporated company.
- Assisted in advising on one of Singapore’s longest criminal trials relating to the 2013 SGD 8 billion penny stock crash.
- Assisted in the commencing of a claim by a Singapore entity in the business of wholesale of liquor and beverages against its foreign distributors for fraudulent misrepresentation, unjust enrichment, and conspiracy.
- Assisted in representing a designer in mediation and in commencing a claim for copyright infringement against entities in the business of providing management, operational and promotional services to luxury hotels and resorts.
- Assisted in filing a complaint on behalf of a Singapore multinational hospitality brand to the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Centre in relation to a domain name dispute.
International Arbitration
- Represented a company in the business of providing IT services, healthcare systems implementation and support to hospitals in Indonesia in commencing a claim against an Indonesian counterparty for breach of the Master Services Agreement leading to termination.
Criminal
- Represented professional engineers in a high-profile regulatory matter arising out of environmental and conservation issues.
